Hi Crafty Gang!

This month’s project is a spring felt banner!  It’s super simple to make and doesn’t take too long.

Included in your kit:

Strips of felt in spring colors

Ribbon

NOT included in your kit:

scissors

glue or sewing machine

Instructions:

1.  Cut the strips of felt into triangles.  They don’t have to be perfect.  I just cut diagonally until the end of the strip.
2. Decide how you’re going to attach the triangles.  You can use glue – something like Elmer’s or Tacky Glue.  Or you can sew them together.  I used a sewing machine and overlapped the edges of the triangles just enough to attach them.  See below.  If you glue, I would just put a dot where the triangles overlap. 
3. Lastly, attach the ribbon on the ends.  Cut the provided ribbon in half.  You’ll see in the picture that I used a thicker ribbon and it wasn’t as easy to hang with the wider size.  Once you’ve cut the ribbon in half, either glue or sew it onto the end of the last triangle on either side.  See below.  The final length should be between 14′ and 15′.
4. Hang and enjoy!

This month’s take and make is super simple! 

Included in your kit is 4 sachet bags, iron on designs and, of course, some wonderful smelling bag fillers.

To transfer the designs onto the bag, cut closely around each design.  Set your iron on high heat, NO STEAM.  Peel off the backing from the design and place onto the sachet bag.  Cover with a scrap piece of cloth and then iron for 5 seconds or so.  If you don’t use a piece of fabric between the iron and the design, it will probably smear the design.

Once all your designs are ironed on, fill your bags! 

If you like your bags a little fuller or with some added weight, you can add rice along with the other filler.

This month’s craft is to make this cross stitch bookmark!

Included in your kit:

1 blank bookmark

1 piece felt for backing

Embroidery floss

Pattern

1 embroidery needle 

NOT included in your kit:

Glue (I used fabric glue, but I think other types would work)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  I started stitching with the very bottom row (symbol = purple 3).  I counted 7 stitches from the left and 7 stiches from the bottom to begin.
2. After you’ve stitched the entire pattern, cut the felt piece just smaller than the bookmark and glue to the back.  I used tacky glue, but any fabric glue will work.

IMPORTANT:

 It is very important to waste as little embroidery floss as possible.  There is a fair amount of backstitching and you will need all of the floss for that.  Additionally, I did not provide the brown floss for backstitching the pages.  I just used the darkest purple for that.

This month’s craft is to make this button heart plaque.

Included in your kit:

1 piece chipboard

1 piece music note paper

1 antique-ish key

Red buttons

Ribbon 

NOT included in your kit:

scissors

glue (I used hot glue, but I think other types would work)

Instructions:

1.  Trace the chipboard onto the music note paper and cut out.  Glue down the paper making sure to get the edges and corners attached well.

2.  Arrange buttons into a heart shape outline and glue down.

3.  Fill in the heart with buttons and glue down.

4.  Create a second layer of buttons on the heart and glue down.

5.  Thread the two thicker ribbons through the key hole in the key and tie a knot.

6.  Make a bow.  Glue the bow just above the button heart.

7.  Attach the white ribbon onto the knot and make a bow in front.

8.  Use the remaining ribbon to create a hanger.  Knot both ends of the thicker ribbons together.  Glue them to the back of the chipboard.

9.  I used a nail file to roughen up the edges of the chipboard to make it look a little more rustic.  This is optional, of course.

This month’s craft is to make this winter hat decoration using a wooden cutout, yarn and flannel.

Included in your kit:

1 Wooden hat cutout

1 Piece of flannel

Yarn for band and ball of hat

1 Cardboard stand 

NOT included in your kit:

scissors

Instructions:

1.  Trace the shape of the cutout onto the piece of fabric and cut it out.  

2.   Cover the wood with glue and glue down the fabric.

3.  Glue on the gray yarn to the bottom of the hat.  I started a little lower than the start of the band.  DO NOT wrap around the back of the hat.  You will not have enough yarn.

4.  Make the ball.  Wrap the white and yellow yarn around your fingers (see picture).  Make sure to keep TWO small pieces for later.  I had a little scrap of gray left, so I used that too.  Here’s a good tutorial for making poms:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daJyhdIEJ1s

 

5.  Carefully remove the yarn from your hand and tie a piece of yarn around the center.  Then, cut the loops.  You will need to trim the excess off to make the ball uniform looking.

6.  To attach the ball to the top, put your finger through the center hole of the ball.  Insert your second piece of scrap yarn through it.  Tie that piece around the top of the hat and tie in a knot at the back.  I also used a little glue to secure it to the wood.

7.  Fold the cardboard stand, peel off the backing and stick to the bottom of the hat.

8.  Put it somewhere cute!

Hello!  I can’t believe it’s November already!  This month’s craft is so relaxing and I hope you love it.

Included in your kit:

Aida cross stitch fabric

1 skein embroidery floss

1 embroidery hoop

1 piece of felt for backing

If you’re new to cross stitching, this instructional video may be helpful for learning the basics.

Instructions:

1.  Fold your Aida cloth in half and then in half again.  Unfold it and you should see the center point of the fabric.  I usually mark this center point with the needle. 
2. Next, put your fabric in the embroidery hoop trying to get the center point as close to the center of the hoop as possible.  If you don’t, you may have to take it out and adjust it when you’re finished stitching.
3. I began stitching from the top of the acorn to the bottom.  From the center point, count up 33 stitches.  That will put you at the very center of the first line of the acorn (not including the stem).  Begin stitching according to the pattern.
4. When you’ve finished stitching and are ready to finish it, first make sure the design is centered in the hoop.  Then cut the excess fabric around the outside in a circle leaving 1.5-2″ all the way around.  Sew around the outside to gather the fabric and then I zigzag from side to side for added stability (see picture and video at the end).                                           
5. Next, trace around the hoop on the piece of felt and cut it out.  Use a blanket stitch to attach to felt to the back of the fabric.  See the video for more detailed instructions.

Happy Fall, Crafters!

I’m really loving this month’s craft!  It was really fun to make and so cute!

Included in your kit:

• pumpkin cutout
• felt for flowers and leaves
• raffia
• orange paint
• paint brush
• leaves
• jute rope

NOT included in your kit:

• scissors
• hot glue/hot glue gun

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Paint the blank pumpkin.  I would recommend 2-3 layers to get a good orange color.  After I had the base paint on, I added a little red paint to my orange and used that to make the accents around the pumpkin.  I didn’t worry about making the painting that pretty – I wanted a more rustic look.    TIP:  The paint brush will be rock hard when it comes out the package.  Soak it in some water for 5 minutes and it will be just fine.

2.  Make the felt flowers.  Cut the felt pieces into the shapes in the pictures below.  For all but the maroon flower (mum), roll the felt starting from the outside.  Glue a little as you go along and use the center piece to cover the bottom of the flower.  For the mum, fold the rectangle in half longways and glue.  Make cuts along the folded edge.  Roll and glue along the way.  I used a rubber band to keep it together until the glue hardened.

3.  Cut out 3 leaf shapes from the green felt.

4.  Arrange all the pieces on the pumpkin in the desired location and glue down.  I glued the leaves and raffia first and then placed my flowers and the leaves last.  Do what works best for you.

5.  Glue the jute rope onto the back for hanging.  Enjoy!

This month’s take and make craft kit is as useful as it is fun to make!  We’ll be making crocheted scrubbies that can be used for all kinds of cleaning.

Included in your kit:

1 skein of scrubbie yarn (this is enough to make several scrubbies)

1 4mm crochet hook

Scrubbie pattern:

Notes:

1. Beginning ch-3 does NOT count as a dc.
2. Ch 1 at beginning of rounds does NOT count as a sc.
3. Scrubber is made in joined rounds.

Round Scrubby Written Instructions:

Ch 3.

Rnd 1: Make 10 dc in the 3rd ch from hook. Join with sl st in first dc (NOT ch).

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in next dc. 2 sc in each dc around. Join with a sl st to first sc. (20 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in next sc. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to first sc. (40 sc)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Make sure to use a large yarn needle with a blunt tip to make weaving in ends easier with this yarn!

Optional:  For a sturdier scrubbie, make 2 and sew them together around the edges.
