The majority, 52, were of the rank of private, two being captains. Pennsylvania is represented by 34 and Virginia 19. Among 62 men is one woman, Blanche Babb. She provided patriotic service feeding soldiers of Virginia. In all there are 63 veterans of the Revolutionary War buried in Greene County, Ohio.

Without doubt there are others. Those whose service we could verify, however their burial location remained uncertain, as well as those whose burial we could confirm, while their service remained questionable. Not to mention those whose names were not on the original list of 215 we vetted, their burial locations and details of service having been lost to time.

Using both print and digital resources the staff of the Greene County Room verified service in the Revolutionary War and confirmed burial in Greene County for 63 veterans. These resources are available, as well as staff assistance, in the Greene County Room for researching your genealogy and potentially your connection to a veteran of the Revolutionary War.

Instructions

For the terry cloth (towel) bib, there are also a lot of free patterns, instructions, etc. online; just search “towel bib pattern” or similar and you can get a lot of adorable variations on the theme, depending on how elaborate you want to get. There are also plenty of patterns online for burp cloths. Matching bibs and burp cloths would be wonderful.

For greeting cards: Send messages along the lines of “Happy Birthday” and “Congratulations.” Cards with no greeting are also encouraged. Keep the inside of the card blank. Keep embellishments secure and no glitter that will fall off (glitter glue that sticks securely is ok). Include an envelope. These are meant to be used in place of professional greeting cards, so please use paper craft skills and refrain from using lower quality materials like construction paper.

At Project Linus, a non-profit organization, we provide new handmade blankets to children in need. Our blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. Our Mission: First, Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Second, provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

GCCOA supports not just senior citizens, but their caregivers as well. We would like to give GCCOA cards in which they can write encouraging messages to the caregivers they support.
