It’s March, and just after St. Patrick’s Day we welcome the arrival of Spring!

Visit your Jamestown Library and take a look at what we have to offer as we anxiously await the arrival of sunnier and warmer days.

Kids be sure and do our March scavenger hunt, find shamrocks, leprechauns, and more throughout the library and get a prize. Hint: Our poodle mascot always has one of the objects you’re looking for….

Ready for Spring Planting?

Stop by today and check out our Seed Library! Pick up legacy variety seeds from a variety of vegetables. “Bee” a friend to butterfly and bee pollinators and pick up some of our flower packets. We also have a limited number of seed starting trays on a first come first serve basis! Happy planting!

Be sure and check out our Ohio Natural Resources display board – our new display features information compiled by Gemma with information about that famous Ohio harbinger of warm weather, the Spring Peeper! You can learn all about them and even use the QR code to hear their call (if you haven’t been paying attention, they are already awake and calling from a swampy area near you). 

Kids

Stop in on Thursday March 26^th at 4PM for our Spring Amphibians program with Miss Abiah, a certified naturalist, who will have live amphibians to show.

On Saturday March 28^th join Miss Madison for a K-Pop Demon Hunters Party at 1:30!

Kids and Teens can also paint your own flower pot and create artificial flowers on April 2^nd. Register for Pots and Petals at 4PM

Adults

We continue to celebrate Women’s History all during the month of March – check out the end panel display in our reading area.  Explore your Greene County family history and get started on your family tree with Mary’s Genealogy Interest Group on April 2^nd at 1PM.

It’s October! Get ready for Halloween and win a prize in our annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest all month long.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Decorate a pumpkin and bring to the library for a chance to win a prize in our four age categories: young children, kids, teens, and adults.

Pumpkins can be dropped off 10/6-10/23 with prize voting 10/24-10/31.

Qualified entries are Painted and Decorated pumpkins only (no carved pumpkins please).

On Halloween – Friday October 31^st – be sure and stop in at the library from 430-6PM before Trick-or-Treat…and we’ll have fun crafts and activities for families to enjoy

Make some Spooky Slime with Holly on October 16^th.

On November 5^th we have Jimmy Ryan from Windy Chicken Farm for an interactive storytime. On the 6^th we celebrate Hello Kitty’s Birthday with a Party, and on November 22^nd it’s a celebration for the 2^nd season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians with the Camp Half-Blood Celebration.

Teens

Register for FrankenSew with Molly Beam on Saturday October 11^th  and you can sew a creepy Frankendoll! Then make a Color Changing Potion on Thursday October 23^rd.

Adults

Have you been following our facebook page?  Librarian Mary has been digging into our local history and remembering Greeneview standouts from the not so distant past and historical incidents from the wayback machine.  She’s also taking a page from Woodland Cemetery, by offering a tour of our own Old Silvercreek Cemetery where you can delve into some little known History, Mystery, and Mayhem on October 28 and 30^th

Our November features a Wicked Party on Saturday November 15^th for the release of Wicked 2  and Turkey Bingo on the 25th with prizes for the winners.

While early August always features our Jamestown kids’ accomplishments at the Greene County fair, it’s a quick turnaround for them as they prepare to head back to school on August 14^th.

Come visit and check out their accomplishments on our Community News Bulletin Board at the circulation desk.  Our own library aide Ella Simmons is part of fair royalty representing poultry raisers… we also have the Greeneview all sports fall schedule posted.

 

With Greeneview students returning to school on August 14^th we are already looking forward to our September first grade field trip and Library Card Sign Up Month.

Level Up Tutoring returns in September with Mrs Mash, Mrs Sweet, and Miss Hentchel available for tutoring and homework help for all grades and subjects, K-12.

Miss Abiah is back after her fantastic summer program on backyard snakes. Learn about Box Turtles on early release day September 10 at 2PM. These gentle woodland creatures are currently listed as a species of concern in Ohio due to habitat loss and other factors.

 Adults: the end of Summer book discussion picks are in: August 19^th features Shelterwood by Lisa Wingate, and on September 24^th we look at The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride.

Magnificent Mozzarella!

Pizza lovers and others. Be sure to attend our Mozarella Cheese Making demonstration on Saturday, September 20^th at 10:30. You’ll see how you can easily make your own mozarella with just a few ingredients.
