From Halloween to Thanksgiving, fall is a fantastic time to explore your Greene County Public Library! Enjoy the crisp, clear fall air as you drop by our outdoor programs, read about the night sky and use our telescopes, and visit our story trails. Then you can warm up with a great book in the library, in our book clubs, at story time, and more!

There are more ways than ever to enrich your life through the Greene County Public Library. Fall is a perfect time to take an online class through Lynda.com and Gale Courses, or to learn in-person through our presentations on everything from crafts to science.

If you are looking for a great evening at home, check out a movie from our in-depth DVD collection or through our streaming video services. Cook an incredible dinner for your family and friends for the holidays by learning from chefs ranging from Julia Child to America’s Test Kitchen through our extensive cooking video and book collection.

For those looking to get into the spirit of Halloween, we have everything you need from books with costume ideas to scary things for people of all ages. If you come on the right day, you might even see a librarian or two in costume.

Be sure to check our programming calendar for presentations that will keep you engaged and entertained throughout the fall. From game night to story time, there is plenty of fun for everyone at the Greene County Public Library.

Did you know that Greene County Public Library is a great place to play, learn, and grow… outside? It’s true! Here are a few ways you can enjoy your library outdoors:

Programs in the Parks

This summer, the library is partnering with park districts around Greene County to bring our Book Bike to community spots like bicycle hubs and picnic shelters! You can learn about nature in the fresh air while having fun. You can even check out books from the Book Bike no matter where it is. Have a look at our calendar to find the next chance to enjoy your library in the park.

Telescopes for Check-Out

You can reach the stars each night by looking through an easy-to-use telescope you can check out from the library! Thanks to our wonderful partners at the Miami Valley Astronomical Society, there is fantastic fun and wonders to explore from the surface of Mars to the rings of Saturn. Grab a telescope, a few books on astronomy, and head out for adventure. And be sure to join the Miami Valley Astronomical Society for their wonderful star-watching events.

Story Trails

Read a book and take a beautiful walk outside anytime at a library story trail! A story trail presents a book on stands page by page in a beautiful place. By the time you have finished the story, you will have stretched your legs and be ready for more. From our Cedarville Community Library StoryWalk® to Hawk’s Woodland Walk at Valle View Reserve in Fairborn to our brand new StoryWalk® at Dominick Lofino Park in Beavercreek, you can enjoy a story while taking a stroll today!

These are just a few examples of outdoor fun with your library, but there’s always more—from our Xenia Community Library children’s garden and the herb garden at Yellow Springs Community Library, to outdoor cooking presentations and concerts, you can enjoy your library outside today.

Summer’s here and the time is right for both dancing in the streets and for our Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program. With all of our spectacular music-themed programming throughout the summer, there has never been a better time to enjoy music at the library.

You can get music from your library in more ways than ever before. We have thousands of titles on CD in genres such as rock, rap, country, and dance. We can’t wait to share our fantastic collection of music from around the world–from Armenia to Zanzibar. And that’s just the beginning. Our Hoopla downloads service offers even more music titles available for streaming and downloading.

Want to do more than just listen to music? Why not spend the summer using our ArtistWorks music-learning platform? With ArtistWorks, top musicians (even Grammy Winners) can teach you a huge variety of instruments. You could even try Lynda.com, where you can find many music-related courses, from playing the banjo to recording in a studio.
